To Lead & Inspire with Healthy Coffee
We have decided to lead by example, inspiring our local community of farmers in the Quindio region of Colombia to improve their coffee, community, and environment by transforming our small family farm into a model for sustainable and ethical coffee grown on healthy land.
Our transformation from conventional to sustainable methods has already begun, with approximately 1,000 organic coffee seedlings planted in one of our open lots last fall.

The Story
Who Is The Big Baby?
Big Baby Coffee is named after Gildardo Castro Vasquéz. Gildardo is a fourth generation Colombian coffee farmer. At 94 years old, he has likely been growing coffee since before you were born. His farm, Finca Las Acacias, is located in the heart of el Quindio, Colombia's famed coffee producing region.
"Big Baby" or "Bebe Grande" is the nickname given to him by one of his grandsons as a nod towards Gildardo's youthful energy, larger than life presence, and how he is taken care of as if he were a newborn. Since then, the nickname has been lovingly adopted by his family, who help run the farm and make his dream of exporting coffee come true.

The Farm
Finca Las Acacias

Finca Las Acacias was established in the 1980's and has been owned & operated by the Big Baby & his family ever since.
Our farm sits at an elevation of about 4,700ft. (1430 meters) above sea level. We grow Castillo variety coffee & use a washed process. While primarily a coffee farm, Finca Las Acacias also produces plantains, oranges, guava and several other tropical fruits. These other crops are not only delicious, but provide essential shade for our coffee & help maintain the biodiversity of our land. |

El Quindío, the department that is home to Finca Las Acacias, is a part of Colombia's Eje Cafetero (Coffee Axis), a broader region that is famous for producing the majority of the coffee grown in Colombia.
